Outgoing deputy speaker elected MP in Mogadishu

The outgoing deputy speaker of Somali parliament Jeylani Nur Ikar has been elected as federal MP in the ongoing lower elections for Banadiri community in Somali capital, Mogadishu on Sunday.

Mr Ikar has retained his seat of the lower house after narrowly defeating his main rival candidate Abdulaziz Osman with majority 28 votes, according to the electoral results.

Osman got only 23 votes during the lower house election of Banadiri community in Mogadishu. The election is taking place for the second day in Mogadishu.

Fahma Ahmed Nor, long-sitting MP and deputy minister for women and human rights affairs ministry won all 51 votes to defeat her cousin and rival Tuuma Osman Nur.
