KISMAYO, (INO)-Kenyan and U.S. military jets continue carrying out airstrikes against the Islamic militant group of Al shabaab in southern Somalia, KON reports.
Witnesses in Kismayo said Monday that Kenyan defense forces (KDF) in the region have conducted an air operation, targeting several training camps for Al shabaab at Tontoy village, 20Kn north of the city.
“Two Kenyan fighter jets have attacked traning camps and military bases belonging to the Shabab insurgent group Al shabaab at Yontoy area and killed a number of militants and destroyed military arsenal, said a resident who asked to remain anonymous for his safety.
Meanwhile, Al shabaab has responded with anti-aircraft missiles to the Kenyan jets during the bombardment ay Yontoy, where is believed to be one of the a biggest rebel hideouts in the region.
The militants has neither denied or confirmed that any of their fighters had been killed in Monday’s aerial attack near Kismayo city, a former Al shabaab bastion that is currently under KDF and Ras Kamboni militia control.
