Muqdisho(INO)—Somalia’s security forces have carried out a largesecurity sweep in the Somali capital, arresting dozens in the north ofthe city, officials told Idale News Online on Sunday.
The operation in Daynile district comes after security forces were
tipped off militants in the area which has seen several raids by
Al-Shabab fighters.
Mohamed Nor, the deputy commissioner for the district sys soldiers
made house-to-house search operations in which several suspected
militants were arrested.
He noted that some of those netted by security forces were murderers
behind assassinations in Mogadishu which has seen series of attacks by
Al-Shabab for the past few months.
Most of the attacks in the centre of the city killed government
officials in drive-by shootings.
The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabab group carried out multiple deadly
attacks in Mogadishu for the past few years, highlighting security
challenges faced by the UN-backed weak government protected by the
African Union forces in Somalia.
