Al Shabaab fighters have detained seven traditional elders in Berhani village, located some 30 kilometers away from Kismayo city, capital of Jubbaland state.
The militants accused the Elders of having links and collaborating KDF and Jubbaland forces in Lower Jubba region who are serving under the AMISOM.
The detention of the elders came after Al Shabaab has seized control of Berhani area on Sunday from Jubbaland troops backed by Kenyan defense forces (KDF).
The residents of Berhani are in shock and concerned over the fate of the elders who were taken to undisclosed location by militants belonging to Al Shabaab.
A senior Somali army commander, told Radio Shabelle over the phone that KDF and Jubbaland troops are responsible the area being taken by Al Shabaab and Elders’ arrests.
