Tension ran high in the suburbs of the central Somali town of Beledweyne after scores of people were killed in a renewed clan battle erupted in mid last week.
The tribal clashes flared up at Balli and Hundura localities west of Beledweyne city, where two armed clan militiamen are fighting over water resources and grazing lands.
The development is seen as a very disturbing situation which elders warned may lead to clan warfare in Hiiraan region which has diverse clans who have long maintained peaceful co-existence.
Reports from Beledweyne indicate that local elders are making efforts to de-escalate the tension, and mediate the warring sides, to bring an end to the ongoing deadly clan war.
