Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has commended government of Southwest; a regional state in Somalia’s southwestern on its commitment to conclude the month long Lower House polls.
The elections of Lower house in Baidoa were finished on Monday with election of the last two lawmakers.
In a statement, Mohamud elections in Southwest have taken place in secure circumstances thanks to the work of the government of Southwest and the voting has been orderly.
All the 69 seats allocated for clans from the state have now been filled making South West the second state to conclude the exercise after Jubbaland.
Hassan Moalim Hussein and Hussein Mohamud Sheikh who were the last two MPs to elect for Lower House in Southwest won with 50 votes while Sheikh garnered 40 votes.
Elections in South West State have so far been orderly and peaceful despite a few hitches which included contests over delegate’s lists at the beginning of the exercise.
Jubbaland state which was the first regional state to finish its election concluded the final phase of Lower House elections late last month.
