At least one civilian is confirmed dead, and several wounded in an attack on a passenger bus near Bal’ad district in Somalia’s southern Middle Shabelle region on Saturday.
The local resident said unknown gunmen have opened fire on the passenger bus as it was heading to the town. After the shooting, the assailants robbed the passengers on the spot.
The victims injured in the attack were rushed to a hospital in Bal’ad, about 30Km north of Mogadishu for medical treatment. No group has yet claimed credit for the bus attack.
Local authorities did not comment on the incident which is attributed to the lawlessness in the volatile region that has been beset by insecurity and Al shabaab attacks in the past.
