Miraa Ban lifted after Pres. Kenyatta strikes deal with Somali counterpart

Miraa farmers and traders will be breathing a sigh of relief after president Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with his Somali counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud and agreed to lift the weeklong ban on exports of the herbal stimulant to the horn of Africa nation.

Effectively flights transporting miraa from Kenya to Somalia are expected to resume 14th September.

President Kenyatta who made a historic visit to Somalia- the first ever by a Kenyan president since the eruption of civil war in 1991 – struck the deal on the sidelines of an IGAD regional meeting in Mogadishu .
