The district commissioner of Jalalaqsi town Mohamed Abdulle Fidow has been injured in an ambush attack by armed Al shabaab fighters in central Somalia on Thursday.

Speaking to Local Media over the phone, the DC said he has sustained slight wounds in the gun attack on a military escorting convoy he was travelling in between Jowhar and Jalalaqsi.

“I escaped unhurt from an attempt on my life by Al Shabaab insurgents while I was en route to Jalalaqsi town and coming back from Jowhar city,” he added.

Mr Fidow confirmed death of a security guard, and two fighters who were killed in an exchange of gunfire broke out between the militants and his escorts following the ambush that took place at El Baraf area.

Al Shabaab did not comment on the attack, which was the latest in a wave of ambushes on Somali government troops and the African Union forces in south and central Somalia.
