African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), said Somali and AU troops have killed at least 12 Al Shabaab members in an ambush attack in lower Shabelle region on Monday.
In a Twitter post, AU mission said the allied troops from Somali Army (SNA) and AMISOM conducted an ambush operation targeting Al Shabaab militants who were crossing from KM50 area to Barire district.
AMISOM said 14 Al shabaab militants had been injured in the attack, and seized large cage of weapons.
“The fleeing Al Shabaab fighters have killed two civilians in retaliation for the loss of their colleagues in the SNA and AMISOM attack,” said AMISOM in its Twitter account.
Al Shabaab was not available for comments on the AMISOM statement.
