The new Mayor of Galkayo pledges to end insecurity

The newly elected mayor of Galkayo in central Somalia has announced measures aimed at improving security in the divided city which has been beset by violence and killings in the past.

Speaking with Local Media over the phone, Mohamud Yasin Ahmed the mayor of Galkayo said his administration will create peace & co-existence between the people of south and north.

“We want to bring peace and security in the town and the resolutions we have now are the first step towards the improving of the city’s overall security,” Mr Yasin said.

The mayor’s statement came a days after representatives from south and northern Galkayo had held a joint meeting focused on security and co-operation between the two sides.
