Smail Chergui, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, said on Monday that the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces will flush out of Somalia.

“AMISOM is now in final preparation of anti-militant push before withdrawing its standby forces from the whole of the horn of Africa country in 2018,” Chergui said.

Speaking at the 27th AU summit in Kigali, Rwanda, Mr Chergui said AMISOM mobilized strong troops for fresh offensives against Al Shabaab militants.

Continuing, Smail Chergui, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security said AMISOM is training and equipping Somali national army to take the country’s security responsibility after AU force withdrawal.

The impending military operations against Al Shabaab may begin in weeks in a bid to set free areas remaining under the control of militants, he added.
