Security forces seize bomb-laden car in Mogadishu

An explosives-laden car has been seized by the Somali security forces in the capital Mogadishu on Sunday night, barely twins after twin suicide car bomb attacks killed 12 people.

The security forces seized the vehicle with explosive devices after security operation conducted in Mogadishu’s main Market, Bakara.

The official told the media that they had prior information that a vehicle carrying explosives was planning to carry out an attack. Bomb disposal experts disposed  the bomb setup inside the car following an examination.

“Security forces successfully foiled a planned suicide car bomb attack. NISA officers seized the vehicle filled with explosive devices ” said NISA

Somalia has been plagued by violence since the overthrow of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991. Western agencies, analysts and nearby neighbours say Somalia is used as a safe haven for Islamist fighters intent on attacks beyond the Horn of Africa country.

AMISOM has faced considerable obstacles and incurred large numbers of casualties while attempting to stabilize the country.

Al-Shabaab militants have been targeting African Union Mission in Somalia, government bases and social gathering places, mainly hotels, in Mogadishu.
