Abdiwali Mohamed Ali Gaas, the leader of Puntland administration and his vice president Abdihakim Abdullah Omar Amey are reportedly in deadlock over the selection of lawmakers in the upper house of the upcoming Somali parliament.

Sources in Garowe say that Abdiwali Gaas wants to pick up all Puntland’s representatives in the upper house of the parliament, while Mr Amey is defiant and rejecting  the president’s decision.

The members of the Upper House of Parliament will be distributed equally among Somalia’s existing, emerging and prospective Federal member states.

The Upper House of Parliament will consist of 54 members.
