Kismayo(INO)-The bordering state of Ethiopia is planning to deploy roughly 600 soldiers in the port town of Kismaayo to fight Al-shabab and serve under the African Union peace keeping mandate in Somalia.
The Ethiopian soldiers were scheduled to replace Sierra Leone troops who left from the mission over Ebola outbreak in their homeland.
Senior Somali military commander Hassan Ibrahim said that the new Ethiopian troops have been set to join AU mission in the region.
He said that Ethiopia government also is planning to send its troops to South Sudan as part of IGAD mediation efforts for restoring stability in the war ravaged SS.
“If there is any request from the African Union, Ethiopia is ready to replace any contingent that leaves Somalia,” Hailemariam said in a press conference in Addis Ababa last year.
The AU troops in Somali including Ethiopian soldiers removed Al-shabaab out of Mogadishu and other key districts in Southern Somali regions.
