The Al Qaeda-linked Al shabaab militants claimed killing at least 3 Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers in an ambush attack on a small village near Jowhar, provincial middle Shabelle region.

The attack took place at Wararaxleey, some 5Km away from Jowhar after Al shabaab ambushed military outposts banned by Somali government forces, according to pro-al shabaab media.

There was no immediate confirmation about the death of the 3 soldiers claimed by Al shabaab. The areas near Jowhar town has been hit by similar attacks in the past.

The fighters with Al shabaab have stepped up their attacks on SNA and AMISOM army bases in south and central Somalia, to oust the western-backed federal government based in Mogadishu.
