Al Shabaab fighters have regained control of southern Somalia’s strategic town of Beerhani, just a day after apparently relinquishing it to Jubbaland state forces.

On Friday, forces from the interim Jubbaland administration occupied Berhani, which lies 45Km southwest of Kismayo after Al Shabaab militants vacated the town.

Jubbaland forces have been accused of setting a blaze on houses belonging to local residents, in what the villagers described as a clan-based revenge attack.

Jubbaland has not made a comment on the withdrawal of Berhani, but locals say Al Shabaab militants have blocked off all roads around the area on Friday.
