Al Shabaab has rebuffed claims by Kenyan military that at least 21 militants have been killed in a KDF attack in Afmadow town in southern Somalia in May.
Pro-al shabaab media outlets reported, citing senior unnamed militant leader that Kenyan military claim over the alleged deaths was ‘false and exaggerated’.
This report is contrary to a statement by Kenyan military spokesman Col. David Obonyo, saying KDF killed 21 fighters while fending off ambush in Afmadow in May.
Last week, Al Shabaab has released a video showing slain KDF soldiers, burning military vehicles. Al Shabaab said it inflicted heavy losses on KDF in recent attacks in Lower Jubba region.
A suspected Al shabaab fighter has killed at least seven Kenyan police officers in an attack on a police station in West Pokot town this week.
Kenya has been hit by cross border raids by Somalia-based Al Shabaab militants since KDF sent troops to nighbouring country in October, 2011.
