Former Galmudug president and Somali police boss Gen Abdi Hassan Awale Qeybdid has warned war in Galkayo after Puntland banned vehicles from the city’s south to enter its territory.
“Galkayo town is on the brink of civil war because of Puntland’s restriction of public transportation from south of the city,” Qeybdid said.
Speaking to Radio Shabelle, Mr Qeybdid called on Puntland state officials to withdraw the decision and discuss with Galmudug leaders on the grievances.
“I believe people in south and north of the city need peace and co-existence, so Puntland should stop renewing past clan fued,” Ex Galmudug leader appealed.
Qeybdid’s call comes days after twin suicide car bombs hit a local Puntland government headquarters and nearby market in northern Galkayo, killing 20.
