Gunmen believed to members of Al Shabaab have launched an ambush assault on Kenyan police convoy at Fino area near the restive Mandera region of northeast Kenya near the Somali border.
The attack began with roadside blast followed by heavy gunfire exchanged between the Al Shabaab suspects and Kenyan police officers, according to locals who spoke to Radio Shabelle.
The ambush is the latest in a wave of attacks in Kenya that authorities have blamed on militants connected to the Al Shabaab, an Al Qaeda-affiliated militants based in nighbouring Kenya.
The details of the casualties on the Kenyan police still remained sketchy, and no group has yet claimed credit for the bomb and gun attack near Mandera town.
Kenya has been targeted by Al Shabaab since sending troops to war-torn Somalia in October, 2011 to fight against militants who carried out series of attacks in Kenya.
