ISWA ministers accused of food aid corruption

Several ministers in Somalia’s Interim South West Administration (ISWA) have been accused of embezzling food aid meant to locally displaced persons (IDPs)  in Lower Shabelle region.

The accused ministers include:

Minister for the Environment – Mohamud Mohamed (Mo’alin Jiis), Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disabled Care – AbdullahiMuse Abukar, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications – Mohamed Sheikh Omar Black, Deputy Minister for Interior and Local Government – Hussein Ali Haji.

The district commissioner of Marka town, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle Hassan Omar is also among those accused of involving in the alleged food aid corruption.

Former Marka DC Mohamed Osman Yarisow has confirmed the report to Local Media on Wednesday during a phone interview. The embezzled aid food was donated by Turkish government.
