AMISOM did not sexually abuse children: army chief

The commanding officer of Somali National Army (SNA) in Hiiraan province Col Mohamed Omar Abdulle denied allegations that AU soldiers in the region have sexually abused Children.

Speaking to local Media, Col Abdulle described the charges as ‘false and propaganda’, saying that AMISOM troops are in the country to help Somalia restore peace and stability.

Col Abdulle added that AMISOM soldiers did not commit any sexual abuse against Somali children in Hiiraan region.

“It’s a baseless propaganda the report saying AMISOM soldiers have sexually abuse young children in small villages in Hiiraan region of central Somalia,” he added.

The army officer’s remark came days after Al Shabaab leader Sheikh Ahmed Omar Abu Ubaidah has accused AMISOM troops in Somalia of committing sex abuse against children.
