The deputy governor of Lower Shabelle regional administration has accused the federal government of Somalia for letting Al Shabaab to retake the port town of Marka.
Hassan Abukar Jimale, the deputy governor said Al shabaab could not recapture Marka if the country’s troops have been given their salaries by the federal government.
Jimale stated that soldiers serving with the National Army force in Lower Shabelle region were not paid for months, so Al Shabaab is taking advantage of the situation.
“The Govt troops have vacated Marka because of they did not get their monthly payment from the government of Somalia,” said the deputy governor of Lower Shabelle region.
He denied reports that African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) soldiers have also deserted the city, saying only the SNA troops have left their bases in the coastal town.
