Muqdisho(INO)-Somalia’ based Al-Shabaab militants announced on Friday that its fighters have released two Kenyan police force officers after converting to Islam, the group said in a statement published on their website.
Pro insurgency broadcaster Radio Andulus’s website published on Friday that two Kenyan police were captured after the militants carried out a special operation in Damajaley, a village in the north-eastern Kenya two years ago.
The statement cited that two Kenyan soldiers had enthusiastically and voluntarily embraced Islam therefore, they deserved emancipation”
The communique also added that the fighters will continue their Jihadi fight against Kenyan until Kenyan troops pull out from Somalia.
The militant did not give further information relating to which channel that the freed soldiers went through, but said that they would soon reunite with their families.
It is not the first time that Al-Shabab fighters have released Kenyan captives.
Last year, militants displayed similar KDF soldiers who they said were Muslim converts in the areas under their of southern regions Somalia.
