Muqdisho(INO)-The United Nations has lauded the progress made by the federal Somali government.
In a n address to the UN security council and later to the media, the head of UN Special Representative to Somalia, Nicholas Kay spoke highly of the leaders and their effort to bring sanity and security back to the war torn country.
Mr Nicholas said Somalia was down on the road to political reconciliation and confidence rebuilding often seen in countries that strive to bounce back from civil turmoil.
“The country made significant strides in military and political gains on the ground and successful partnership with the national and international partners,” he told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York.
He continued: “Despite ongoing difficulties throughout the country ranging from economic to political to security issues, Somalia retained all the problems of a country still coming together after decades of conflict.”
He said the coming together of Somalia was a simple process because the initiative was Somali-driven and the people have owned up the process.
Kay spoke after he met the UN Security Council Member where they discussed the Somali situations and the plans to launch the final assault on the Al Shabab strongholds in a bid to uproot the group from the country.
