At least one soldier serving with South West state army has been killed, and several others were wounded in a fierce fighting occurred outside Afgoye district, some 30Km north-west of Mogadishu.
The battle broke out when heavily armed Al shabaab militants launched an ambush attack on army checkpoint in the outskirts of Afgoye, according to a witness told.
The combat between South West state forces and Al shabaab fighters was fierce and continued for several hours in the morning at the checkpoint, he said.
In a seprate incident, unknown gunmen opened fire on a civilian bus near Afgoye, killing at least one passenger. The bus came under attack as it was travelling from Awdhegle town and en route to Janale.
