Somali leaders have wrapped up a Two-day high-level National Consultative Forum (NCF) on the frequently delayed presidential election in Mogadishu.
The presidents from the Somali federal state members, including Galmudug, South-West, Hir-Shabelle and Puntland were in attendance of the election talks.
After in-depth talks, the east African country’s top leaders have released a joint communiqué on the upcoming presidential and ongoing parliamentary elections.
According to the communiqué, Somalia’s presidential elections scheduled for 15 December have been postponed for a fourth time in row to 28 December, 2016.
Members of the 275-seat Lower House of parliament and the 54-seat Upper House will be sworn-in 15th December, and then will vote for the speaker in 22 December.
The federal parliament will elect a new president in 28 December, according to the joint the communiqué from the national consultative forum in Mogadishu.
A lower house election is currently underway in Somalia, with 14,025 clan representatives who form an Electoral College are electing the 275 members of the next parliament.
