Galmudug state said its national intelligence agency forces have detained at least 30 Al shabaab suspects following a raid on a house in the central town of Galkayo on Wednesday.
Officials said the arrested people are suspected to be part of the Al shabaab fighters retreating from the fighting in Gara’ad, the coastal village in northern Mudug region.
“The detained people, mostly youths are currently under arrest at a police custody in Galkayo. They are being questioned over being Al shabaab members,” said Galmudug officials.
Al shabaab militants briefly captured Gara’ad after seaborne attack last early this week. Puntland forces repelled the attack on its coast and claimed to have killed more 100 fighters.
