Heavy fighting broke out between Al shabaab militants and south west state forces in Goofgaduud village, located outside Baidoa city, the regional capital of Bay province on Sunday.
The battle erupted at Googfaduud, a small town which lies around 30Km Southern of Baidoa after Al shabaab fighters launched an overnight offensive on army bases, according to local resident account.
South West state troops engaged in a heavy gunfire with Al shabaab militants who were armed with AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers that saw an intense clashes lasted for several hours in the night.
Details of the casualties on both sides as result of the overnight attack in Goofgaduud area still sketchy. Unconfirmed reports indicate the militants took the town following the battle.
